Now operating in Newtown (new concept)
Stonewall Hotel is one of Sydney’s most recognisable gay bars, with a long history at the heart of Oxford Street’s LGBTQ+ scene. After 28 years in its original location, the venue has entered administration and closed its Oxford Street site.
The Stonewall brand continues at a new space in Newtown, where it is evolving into a creative hub for drag, cabaret, live music and queer performance.
At its peak, Stonewall was a cornerstone of Sydney nightlife, known for its busy dancefloors, drag shows, DJs, and themed nights across multiple levels. It played a visible role in the city’s LGBTQ+ history, from pre-marriage equality days through to modern celebrations.
Visitors should note that the original venue is no longer operating, but the Stonewall name remains active in a new format.
